Course Overview

The Mechanical Ventilation: From Admission to Evacuation (A2E) course is an intensive, CPD-accredited pre-conference workshop held in conjunction with the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine (IAEM) Annual Scientific Meeting. Taught by a distinguished faculty of ICU and Emergency Department consultants from the UK and Ireland, this workshop is designed to equip medical professionals with the critical, hands-on skills needed to manage patients requiring respiratory and ventilatory support.

The Program

The curriculum bridges foundational respiratory theory with practical, scenario-based learning. Participants will explore a complete spectrum of care, from initial non-invasive support to complex invasive techniques.

• Fundamentals: Understanding Acute Respiratory Failure, differentiating between oxygenation and ventilation, and recognizing key indications for ventilatory support.
• Non-Invasive Techniques: Detailed breakdowns of High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), covering indications, initial settings, contraindications, and troubleshooting.
• Invasive & Specific Management: Deep dives into invasive ventilation protocols and mechanical ventilation strategies tailored to specific clinical pathologies.
• Specialized Scenarios: Managing transport ventilation ("Ventilation on wheels"), navigating common clinical pitfalls, and applying knowledge through interactive A/E case studies.
• Special Populations: Neonatal and Paediatric ventilation guidelines (currently To Be Confirmed).
